The legal profession is entering a phase of profound transformation. Artificial intelligence is no longer an abstract technology “of the future” — today it is becoming a full-fledged tool of everyday work for lawyers and advocates. Recognizing this shift, the Research Institute of Maritime and Space Law has introduced a new continuing education program entitled “Lawyer of the Future. Professional Application of Artificial Intelligence in Advocacy and Legal Practice.”
This program is not about theory for theory’s sake. It is about real legal practice in the context of digital transformation: speed of analysis, quality of legal reasoning, information management, and the responsible use of technology in a field where the cost of error is exceptionally high.
From intuition to managed technology
Artificial intelligence is already capable of analyzing hundreds of pages of documents, systematizing case law, assisting in the preparation of procedural documents, and even modeling the position of the opposing party. At the same time, its growing capabilities bring new risks: data confidentiality, model “hallucinations,” and ethical limits of automation.
For this reason, the “Lawyer of the Future” program is built around a key principle: AI is a tool, not a substitute for the lawyer’s professional judgment. Participants learn not merely to use popular AI platforms, but to critically assess their outputs, verify information, and integrate technology into their own practice without violating professional standards.
Practice over declarations
The educational course has a clearly defined practical orientation. Across four modules, participants master:
- the fundamentals of large language models and their real limitations;
- prompt engineering as a new professional skill for lawyers;
- the use of AI for case-law analysis and preparation of procedural documents;
- the concept of an “AI opponent” to strengthen legal positioning;
- first steps toward creating AI agents for automating routine legal processes.
Each session combines a lecture component with interactive case analysis, and all materials remain available to participants for continued professional use.
Ethics and responsibility at the core
A separate and essential focus of the program is placed on attorney–client privilege, personal data protection, and professional responsibility. Participants study practical methods of data anonymization, principles of digital hygiene, and international ethical standards governing the use of artificial intelligence in legal practice.
Formalized outcomes and institutional trust
The program is officially approved by order of the Director of the Institute and is implemented within the quality management system in accordance with ISO 9001 requirements. Upon successful completion, participants receive a standardized certificate with a unique registration number recorded in the public register of the Institute.

In a world where technology is reshaping the rules of the profession, true competitive advantage lies not in artificial intelligence itself, but in a lawyer’s ability to manage it professionally, responsibly, and strategically.
