The Research Institute of Maritime and Space Law has completed the development and approval process of a new training programme entitled
“Prevention of and Response to Violence and Harassment on Board Ships.”
On 7 January 2026, the Academic Council of the Institute reviewed the proposed training programme and, following discussion, approved it and recommended that the Director of the Institute formally endorse it. Based on this decision, the Director of the Institute issued an official order approving the programme and bringing it into force.
The new programme is aimed at equipping seafarers and other maritime professionals with practical knowledge and skills related to:
- preventing violence and harassment on board ships;
- ensuring an appropriate response to relevant incidents;
- complying with international safety standards, professional ethics, and respect for human dignity in the maritime environment.
The programme has been developed taking into account current international approaches to ensuring safe and decent working conditions at sea, as well as contemporary practices in maritime personnel training. Its implementation is based on a systematic approach to education and awareness-raising, with a focus on preventing discrimination, violence, and harassment in the professional maritime setting.
The training programme is implemented as part of the Institute’s educational and outreach activities and is applied as a standalone educational product. Upon completion of the programme, participants are awarded certificates of the established format.
The approval of this programme represents another step taken by the Research Institute of Maritime and Space Law towards the development of modern educational initiatives aimed at enhancing safety standards, professional culture, and responsibility within the maritime sector.
